We Had a Whole Blog Written and Josie Accidentally Deleted it Twice

So here's some photos to show some of what's happened here since the last time.  Canon showing off the haircut his mom gave him before beach week. Ferris showing the other kids how it's done at the park. If anyone knows who broke into our home and poured coffee on the floor while our youngest animal (pictured in background) and child (foreground) were behaving, please let us know ASAP. The boys at the zoo with their grandparents. Ashy looking after his beloved Kitkat. Family Day at the sausage plant. Ferris getting acquainted with the sausage business. Canon rehearsing for one of many performances. Josie worked outside of the home 30 days this year. One day for her full time job. The other 29 days with the gubment. One of those days was spent on an American revolution battleground. Thanksgiving festivities included this drink made by Eric. It'll get ya

5 Facts You Didn't Know About Kit Kat

Kit Kat is our new cat who belongs to us and no one else, except technically Ferris is her designated human. Josie is second in the line of succession of ownership, because mom. Followed by Mike, who made the call to bring her home and is always walking around with Kit Kat on his shoulder. And then Ashy, who has taken on the responsibility of teaching her how to cat with the best of them. Canon is in last place, but that's what happens when your first experience with someone is them carrying you around like a sack of potatoes.  2. Kit Kat has learned a lot of things from all of us. She's learned how fast she needs to run from

Neglected Socials

Image
CLIFF NOTES/ TLDR: We haven't done much blogging The kids are both in preschool Ashy is still alive Everyone is taking some kind of lessons Our food forest is huge this year Well we did it. We started a blog to wean ourselves from most social media. It didn't feel social anymore considering it's just ads and content for monetization. I scrolled Facebook this week and I saw 15 ads and 3 genuine updates from friends. It doesn't feel good to feed an algorithm when it's just used to push ads for products. And we aren't even getting paid for it. So most of this year our "likes" and "follows" have been by phone and email and this blog when we remember to use it. And we have forgotten mostly for a lot of very good reasons (we have all been sick with all the things from Preschool all year long and our computer broke). So unfortunately our attempt at blogging didn't really happen... for months... but here we are. Figure 1. Caption: A young Canon c

Ashy’s Origin Story

Image
In the cold, dark wilderness of upstate New York, a winter cat was born. He lived on the land and was probably healthy and happy as a feral cat could be. We don't know much else of his story, but what we do know about him is he was likely born sometime in February and lived in the snow for the first several  months of his life. And in that snowy wilderness he survived with minimal human contact until someone noticed him and sent animal control to capture him. This cat, feral and wild, allegedly walked right up to a man and allowed himself to be loaded into a van and taken to the SPCA to be neutered and caged, awaiting a new home. While that cat waited for a forever home, I was simply waiting to come home from the Middle East, which was equally cold at the time. It was a bumpy trip back but eventually I made it to the SPCA and came face to face with his cat after a brief search. "Angus" was large, long and gray. "Angus" was loud and didn't take his eyes off o

Who is Ferris L.?

Image
Who is Ferris L.? Ferris L. is a young baby between the age of 32 weeks and 40 weeks old. Ferris has been outside the womb almost as long as he was in. Ferris has a net worth between $0 and $642M. Ferris is known for his boundary-pushing performances of being a baby, which has catapulted him to fame in his family. Ferris is arguably one of the biggest stars there is. People are always asking about Ferris and often search for him online. Is Ferris L. a Loud Baby? Some people say Ferris is the loudest baby in Richland County. People have heard Ferris crying for miles. People ask "what is Ferris crying about?" many times a day. Sometimes Ferris is crying because his mom is walking too fast or not making eye contact with him. Sometimes he is crying because his dad is not holding him. Many times Ferris has cried because Ashy won't let him pet him, or Canon won't give him a toy. The truth is, Ferris can cry for a lot of reasons because he is a baby. What we do know for sure

The Family Picks: Top Movies, Music, and Games from 2022

We're only halfway through January, so I think there's still time to do a best of 2022. Without belaboring the point, let's just get to it.  Mike's Top Picks: # 1 Album: Bleed Out by the Mountain Goats While "Dark in Here" would have been my pick of top recent Mountain Goats albums earlier last year, Bleed Out just kept growing on me. Every song on it could stand alone as a solid single, but together it makes an awesome album. My pick for best track on the album is "Mark on You." #1 Musical Performance: Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals Tiny Desk Concert This is an older performance, but we just got into Anderson .Paak last year, and this tiny desk performance was probably the catalyst. Drummers as good as he is are rare, and even more rare is the ability to perform vocals while drumming. "Come Down" really hits hard as the first song but the whole performance is really top notch. #1 Show:  Andor : After disappointing us with almost the

Sneezing in the New Year

Image
While there were fireworks, countdowns, and cheers ringing in the new year of 2023 all around the world, I'm certain the only mammal awake at midnight in our home was Ashy. The novelty of the new year just wasn't a priority for the rest of us, considering the disgusting "cold" that started sweeping through the house on New Year's Eve. We [are] still working on it.  Figure 1: Ferris feeling bad or just being a baby For the new year, we got together and powered through to celebrate Daddy Mike's most recent trip around the sun. The boys played with trains and blocks and snuggled upstairs with Josie while Mike got a day to put a dent in some major woodworking projects. And after the boys were asleep, the grownups had filet mignon for the celebratory dinner.- Josie Figure 2: A late night dinner Little did we know that things were about to get nasty... real nasty. It turned out on Wednesday Morning that Mike tested positive for COVID. So, that cold we thought everyo
